
Arts Plural | 18th ELIA Biennale Conference 2024
INTRODUCTION
Hosted by NABA Milan, ELIA - the European League of Institutes of the Arts - organised the 18th ELIA Biennial Conference 2024 in Milan, Italy. The ELIA Biennial Conference aims to be one of the major international forums for debate, exchange of ideas and best practices in higher arts education.
ELIA is a globally connected European network, with over 285 members in 52 countries, representing around 350,000 students in all art disciplines. ELIA collaborates with partner networks around the world.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Around 400+ participants from more than 30 countries attend the ELIA Biennial Conference. A wide range of participants from higher arts education, including academics/professional practitioners from all arts disciplines, arts administrators, international officers, senior managers, artists and representatives of the cultural sector.
THEME & OBJECTIVE
ELIA Biennial Conference 2024 celebrated artistic intelligence, research and creative processes across all artistic disciplines. Can artistic intelligence be used to solve critical and wicked problems? And how can we teach art and design students to become agents of social evolution?
ELIA Biennial 2024 invited participants to come to Milan, a city famed for its art, history and architecture, as well as its extraordinary fashion and culinary scenes.
The concept is to open your mind to new ideas and undiscovered possibilities. Experience, experiment and extend your vision of what art and design can do, as together we find new ways to influence transformation in politics, ecology, ethics and sustainability and build inclusive futures based on plural voices.
MAIN OBJECTIVE
The main objective is to create a visual identity and branding for the ELIA Biennial Conference 2024. The visual identity and logo should reflect the title Arts Plural and the conference’s theme as described above.
This project is a proposal that Melissa Galvan and I, Sheryl Anna Biju, had submitted to ELIA from NABA, Milan.

our logo

Taking a classic and nearly sacrosanct typeface like Futura and adding a touch of rebellion by subtly tilting the letters, we craft a design that exudes both playfulness and elegance. The incorporation of a surrounding circle not only restores order and equilibrium but also unifies the elements seamlessly.

The variations of the logo can be applied interchangeably according to the format. The horizontal format, for example, can be used for the website banner. When applying this rotation effect to other elements, it shouldn’t exceed 15 degrees with shorter words and 10 degrees with longer ones, since readability is key.

In ID Cards, both short and longer names work well thanks to the horizontal format. The QR code in the back can be linked to a PDF with more useful information, ELIA’s webpage or others, to keep the design clean but still be able to communicate and inform the audience.
